Don’t worry, we will have time to edit in the middle of the day while enjoying some tasty clam chowder! Itinerary:
*Please note, this is a very rough itinerary for the shooting locations and subject to change depending on weather and surf conditions*
May 11:
Arrival day in Brookings, Oregon! We will meet at 2PM at our accommodations, get settled in and have our meet & greet. We will then shortly after depart for our sunset outing amongst the beautiful cliffs of the Samuel H. Boardman area.
May 12:
We will start our day off early, heading out to chase sunrise colors and light. During this workshop, our itinerary will be flexible with the weather conditions dictating our shooting locations. During the midday hours, we will have a weather forecasting education session where I will share with you how I utilize my background in atmospheric science to help plan for the best shooting locations. After a small break, it’s back out for sunset!
May 13:
Unfortunately it’s going to be another morning chasing beautiful light amongst beautiful cliffs and shorelines, darn. We will still be in the Samuel H. Boardman region as there are just endless photographic opportunities here! After breakfast, we will checkout of our accommodations and take a short drive north to Bandon, where we will spend the next two nights. Sunset will be at Bandon Beach.
May 14:
Rise and shine, up early again for sunrise! We will be photographing the beautiful Bandon Beach or a nearby lighthouse for sunrise this morning depending on weather conditions. Midday activities will be photo critiques and edit sessions before heading back to the beach for sunset. After dinner, we will head out to another lighthouse for some night sky photography!
May 15:
Sunrise will be at Bandon Beach once again followed by breakfast and then departing for Newport. There may be some surprise stops along the way for midday shooting if the weather cooperates! Sunset will be at either Thor’s well or a nearby location depending on tides.
May 16:
Wheels up for sunrise and coffee at a nearby location (once again, tide dependent), and then a midday edit, critique session to fill our down time! Sunset will be at either Thor’s well or a nearby location depending on tides.
May 17:
Sadly, this will be our last morning out to photograph sunrise as a little photographer family. We will head out to one of my favorite lighthouses for this outing, have a great breakfast together, shed some tears and be on our way.
Physical Requirements:
Most shooting locations are a short distance ( <1 mile ) away from the parking lot. A couple do require walking over uneven slippery and rocky surfaces with inclines and declines (some steep). We will take these walks at a slow and comfortable pace. There will be times when you will be in the waves, so please be aware that you will need to be sturdy on your feet. If you don’t feel comfortable in the water, you can shoot from a drier location. Please know your limitations. If you feel a hike may not be for you, I will gladly give you another shooting location to visit during our outing.
Where Do We Stay?
We will be staying at either an AirBNB home or hotel in each of the locations. Rooms will be based on double occupancy unless there is an odd number of men vs women. Staying in a home together allows us the freedom to leave together, edit together, and just nerd out together at anytime, so that’s what I aim to book for us if possible.
Arriving & Departing:
Our workshop will begin in Brookings, Oregon. The nearest airport to that area is Rogue Valley International Airport in Medford, Oregon. From Medford to Brookings, it is about a 2.5 hour drive. With our workshop wrapping in Newport, Oregon, it’s recommended to fly out of Portland. It’s 2.5 hours to Portland versus 4.5 hours back to Medford.
Workshop Start / Wrap:
Our workshop will begin with a meet and greet at our accommodations in Brookings at 2PM and wrap in Newport, Oregon at 10AM on the final day.
