On May 4 of 2018, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake triggered a series of events within the Kilauea Volcano that lead to an eruption of 24 fissures within the Lower East Rift Zone. These fissures created massive lava flows that swept through the Leilani Estates area and beyond during the next three months, forever changing the landscape and lives of those who lived there. During my trips out to he Island of Hawai’i, these were some of the strongest images in which I captured via land, air and sea to tell the story of the eruption.
